Man charged with burglary to Champaign home
URBANA — A Sidney man is due back in court in December after being charged Tuesday with breaking into one home in October and trying to get into a second in July.
Kamaal Dudley, 18, was charged with residential burglary for an Oct. 13 incident in which a home in the 1300 block of Joanne Lane in Champaign was forcibly entered and a laptop and cash were stolen.
State’s Attorney Julia Rietz said fingerprints lifted at the scene from a broken window were run through the state’s computerized database of fingerprints and matched Dudley’s. Rietz said he admitted to the break-in.
Dudley was also charged in a separate case with attempted residential burglary for trying to get in a home in the 2300 block of Southmoor Drive in Champaign on July 17.
Rietz said Dudley and a juvenile who lived next door to the victim were seen trying to get in the house. Rietz said Dudley admitted that they were trying to get into the house to steal a laptop computer, and that he was to act as the lookout, but they could not get the window open.
Dudley’s bond was set at a total of $10,000. He was ordered to be back in court Dec. 8.
If convicted of the residential burglary charge, he faces a mandatory prison term of four to 15 years in prison.
