Local Cancer Advocates Health Care Reform Vigil
Where:
Champaign County Courthouse, 101 E Main Street, , Urbana
When:
Tuesday Nov 3, 2009 5:45 pm
to 6:45 pm
Description:
WHO: In an effort to put patients over politics in the health care reform debate, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) volunteers will stand side-by-side with other concerned citizens at candlelight vigils that are being held Nov. 3 in Chicago, Springfield and Champaign. WHAT: The candlelight vigil will include personal stories from cancer patients and caregivers whose lives have been impacted by a lack of accessible, affordable, adequate and administratively simple health care, as well as a moment of silence to remember those who have lost their battle with cancer. Participants will also have the opportunity to sign a mobile petition to support access to quality health care for all Americans. Members of ACS CAN will present the petitions to members of Congress at their district offices following the vigils. WHERE/WHEN: Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 5:45 p.m.-6:45 p.m. WHY: Through the event, organizers hope to refocus the debate on those who need comprehensive reform the most - patients - and to emphasize that Congress must pass health care reform this year that improves the health care system for families touched by cancer and other life-threatening chronic diseases. For more information:
