Pre-concert Young Artist's Showcase. After-concert Reception at Jim Gould Restaurant. The CUSO begins its 50th season with friends from the past and fresh, new talent. Hugo Alfvén's "Midsummer Vigil" gives listeners a glimpse of Swedish summertime. As one of the most well-known musical works in Sweden, it is sure to delight CUSO audiences. Dmitry Kouzov, an internationally acclaimed cellist and the University of Illinois's incoming cello professor, takes the stage to astound you with Shostakovich's first cello concerto. A graduate of Julliard School of Music and Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, professor Kouzov is a cellist of remarkable maturity and ability. The CUSO also welcomes back Paul Vermel to the symphony! This familiar face was Music Director of the CUSO for twenty years and is back to conduct once again.
