Elderhostel Community Concert

Where:

Faith United Methodist Church, 1719 S. Prospect Ave., Champaign

When:

Friday Jul 17, 2009 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Description:

Come be entertained by a 58-voice choir of music lovers, treating you to a concert of Broadway and popular tunes and sacred music. There will be an audience "sing-along"as part of the concert, which is free, open to the public, and suitable for all ages. The event will take place at the Faith United Methodist Church from 2 to 3 p.m. July 17. The church is located two blocks south of Kirby Avenue on Prospect Avenue. The concert will be the highlight of a weeklong choral singing workshop, which has been offered by Elderhostel at the University of Illinois for 15 years. Many of the singers, who come from over 20 states and Canada, return year after year because of their love of music and the instructors. Most of the singers are community and church choir members and some are retired school music teachers. The choir has been directed for the last 15 years by Rick Murphy, musical director at University Laboratory High School and a faculty member in the annual Illinois Summer Youth Music program at the University. Elderhostel is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing extraordinary lifelong learning opportunities for people 55 and over. The program at the University of Illinois is offered through the Conferences and Institutes division of the Office of Continuing Education.
