Description:
Several Grazing Schools are scheduled this summer for Livestock producers. These schools provide valuable information as well as criteria in order to meet the Environmental Quality Incentive Program ranking. The schools are designed for grazing enthusiasts and include topics to assist in the implementation of a sustainable grazing system. Specialists provide information on forage species, forage fertility, weed control in pastures, system layout and design suggestions, grazing management, summer and winter annuals, stockpiling options, forage risks and animal disorders, meeting animal nutritional needs with forages, and economics of managed grazing. The instructors will consist of University of Illinois Extension Educators and USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Grazing Specialists. There will also be a panel of local livestock producers who will discuss their operation and experiences with managed grazing. Also, at some locations site visits/farm tours may be available immediately following the conclusion of the grazing schools. Bring your questions! Early registration fee of $20 ($25 after Aug. 22 or at the door) to cover the cost of the meal, refreshments and handouts (including Illinois Grazing Manual).
